Who are the women Rotary has funded so far?

The RAWEF has funded the university education of 36 women. Eight of the 25 surviving Aboke abduction girls are included. Nine women from Uganda and Kenya have graduated.

The "Aboke girls" were abducted in 1996 from their school in northern Uganda by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) terrorist group. Each girl survived eight years of abuse, torture and terrible living conditions, but upon their escape, they returned home and committed to completing their education and helping to restore their communities.

The amount required for each woman?
Up to $2,000 per year and no, this is not a typing error.

When these women graduate we expect them to return to provide leadership. This approach prevents ongoing dependence on external funding for the village and creates a sense of pride and accomplishment.
